The
Banana Tree Hotel,
is located in Manuel Antonio on the Pacific side of Costa Rica, over the hill
from the small Costa Rica Fishing port
town of Quepos. Manuel Antonio is only 3 1/2 hours by car or bus from San Jose,
or a short 20 minute plane ride. Manuel Antonio is easy to get to and easy to
get around in.
The Banana Tree Hotel is one mile (1.6 Km), from some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, and 1.5 miles (2.4 Km) from the entrance to Manuel Antonio National Park. It is a 10 minute walk to the beaches and a 20 minute walk to the Park. The local bus stops 50 yards (meters) from the hotel and can have you at the beach or Manuel Antonio National Park in under 2 minutes. We are one of the closer hotels to the beach.
Bus:
Two options for buses:
From the downtown San Jose "Coca Cola" bus station, take the "Directo"
Quepos/Manuel Antonio bus, 6 daily departures, cost $5. Don't try to find
the bus station on foot - you won't. Take a taxi to the bus station.
The bus will arrive in Quepos and most people will get off. You can stay
on the bus and they will drop you off right by our hotel. Ask them to
drop you off at the Banana Tree Hotel
or Restaurante El Avion. You can also take Interbus
with daily shuttles from the most popular tourist destinations in Costa Rica,
pick-up from your hotel, cost $25. They will drop you off at the Banana
Tree Hotel. Interbus is the more direct and comfortable option.
Plane:
Two airlines, Sansa and Nature
Air, have several flights to Quepos/Manuel Antonio daily, flights last 20
minutes and costs $50. Sansa is adjacent to the international airport,
while Nature Air is in San Jose, if your flight to Costa Rica arrives in the
morning, and you have no plans to visit San Jose, you can walk out of the airport,
make a left, walk another 50 yards and hop on a Sansa flight. Also, if
you have an afternoon flight out of Costa Rica, you can catch a Sansa flight,
avoid spending the night in San Jose, and squeezing one more day in Manuel Antonio.
Car:
Several international rental agencies: Budget
Dollar Hertz,
rates vary, from $45 per day on up. The road between San Jose and Manuel
Antonio is good, poorly lit at night, but well marked It runs right past
the airport in Alajuela, use caution when driving through the mountains,
as there are lots of trucks and buses and people love to pass each other around
curves. You don't need four wheel drive to visit Manuel Antonio.
Also don't leave luggage or bags in your car overnight or when the car is out
of your site. Costa Rica is a safe place, you're not going to get car
jacked here, but car break-in's are common.
